UN Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution on climate change calling for keeping the global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees Celsius, implement the Paris Climate Agreement and enhance international cooperation for countries vulnerable to climate change.

The resolution also calls for the UN Human Rights Council to place emphasis on global challenges like climate change and capacity building of vulnerable countries in tackling the crisis.

Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Md Mustafizur Rahman presented the resolution to the 47th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said climate change has become a threat for the climate vulnerable countries in terms of their existence and protecting the human rights of the people.

He thanked the international community for adoption of the resolution and said the least developed countries (LDCs) are not responsible for climate change, but are the victims of it.

He called on the developed countries to play an effective role in providing financial, technical and technological support for adaptation and mitigation.
