‘We are ashamed as artistes’ Film legends react to Moushumi-Sani-Zayed controversy

While the film industry is struggling badly to keep up the standards set by its golden era, the actors of this industry are often seen to make headlines, but for the wrong reasons.

The much-loved cine-couple Moushumi and Omar Sani's relationship seems to be in jeopardy. Omar Sani has recently claimed that actor Zayed Khan has pointed a gun at him after he slapped him openly in Dipjol's son's wedding reception – and that he had confronted him after Zayed harassed Moushumi in the past. Moushumi, on the other hand, has denied Sani's claim of her being harassed by Zayed Khan.

With such incidents surfacing, The Daily Star spoke to actors from this industry to know their views and opinions about such controversies, and the future of Bangla cinema.

I am ashamed of being called an artiste: Rozina

I have witnessed a lot of incidents in my long career in films. Speaking from experience, I feel that we have no future. The recent incidents involving our artiste is only forcing us to bow down in shame. After all this, I am ashamed of being called an artiste.

How can an artiste stoop so low – ruining another artiste's reputation just for the sake of building a better self-image is just unacceptable.

I was present at Dipjol's wedding reception that day. So were a lot of VIPs. The security was very tight. There is no way such an incident can take place.

Before jumping to conclusions, we should try to know the truth first. This is only bringing harm to this industry.

Films are dead: Sohel Rana

Accusations and claims are all I have heard in this regard. However, why isn't anyone presenting proof to support their facts?

Did such an incident really happen between Sani and Zayed at the wedding? I don't believe that Zayed can behave in such manner.

I have heard the story and if this incident is true, then it is very shameful. The truth should be revealed. 

As far as the fate of our industry is concerned, films are dead.

Death is of two types, when one dies physically and when one keeps breathing but their soul is dead. The film industry's soul has died.

Actors are to be loved, adored, and respected. We have to pay back to our audience with actions that makes us more appreciable, not despicable.

Our industry is guardian-less: Uzzal

Our industry is guardian-less, and whatever is going on is a result of the absence of guidance.

I know we have lost the glory of the golden era but hailing from that time period, I am always hopeful about the fate of this industry. As an actor, I am deeply disheartened by this incident.

For a few rotten apples, we get a bad name: Babita

I have always seen artistes being loved and respected for their creativity and performances. They are meant to be humble.

For a few rotten apples, the whole industry faces harsh criticism. We should become more careful of our actions. We have the responsibility to live up to our fans; expectations and not doing that is an insult to this artform.
