Marvel has dropped a new trailer of "Thor: Love and Thunder", the fourth Thor film which picks up after the ending of "Avengers: Endgame." The last time, we saw Thor in the pantheon of suffering - the downfall of Asgard and the death of his brother, Loki.

Let's take a closer look at what the new film has in store for the audience.

What can we expect from 'Thor: Love and Thunder'?

The director of "Thor: Ragnarok", Taika Waititi, returns with another Thor film so we can expect the perfect balance of comedy, mind-blowing visual effects, spine-tingling drama, and chaos.

It will be a refreshing change of pace to follow Thor go through trials and tribulations on his journey to self-discovery and amble across unknown terrains without being surrounded by the Avengers. We also know that characters from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films are set to return. We get a first look at Christian Bale's Gorr, the God of Butcher and many beloved characters come back to the screen to reprise their roles.

'Thor: Love and Thunder' trailer breakdown

The new trailer opens with Thor's friend Korg (Waititi) narrating the story of Thor Odinson, but he is suddenly interjected when he realises there is more than one God of Thunder in town.

It is Natalie Portman – the Mighty Thor who we know as Jane Foster, one of the leading astrophysicists in the world and love interest of Thor. There is barely any time for Thor to process the lingering feelings he has for his old flame as there is a new threat on the horizon.

The film finds Thor and his ragtag group of heroes on an adventure like no other as they meet Zeus (Russell Crowe) on their trek to Olympus, funny dialogue exchanges between Valkyrie and Foster, and of course, the Mighty Thor wielding the Mjolnir. We also see glimpses of The Guardians of The Galaxy. The relationship between the Guardians and Thor at the end of Endgame made for good entertainment so it is a delight to have them back.

Together, they all make an indomitable force to be reckoned with. Their mission is to stop Gorr, who claims to be the apostle for the extinction of all the gods. The mystery behind the galactic villain's thirst for vengeance will be unraveled in this film. Although Zeus's role in the film is liminal, the shot of Valkyrie wielding his lightning bolt against Gorr opens the door to many speculations.

When will 'Thor: Love and Thunder' be released?

The God of Thunder returns to theatres worldwide on July 8, 2022.

The bar has been raised by previous films in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With Thor being the first Marvel hero to lead a fourth film, "Thor: Love and Thunder" will be the benchmark by which the next generation of MCU characters will have to measure up to.
