Talented actor and theatre artiste Sujat Shimul has entertained the audiences with his versatile roles in both films and tele-fictions.

He is also adept at both theatre and poetry recitation.

In a candid conversation with The Daily Star, the "Maan Obhiman" actor has opened up about his upcoming projects and his hopes regarding "Dhaka Dream".

What projects are you currently busy with?

Currently, I am busy handling the role of secretary of information and technology at Actors Equity Bangladesh. I consider this as a huge privilege and I am working dedicatedly to fulfil my responsibility.

I started my journey as an actor by poetry recitation, but consequently, I become very passionate about theatre performance. In order to enhance my acting skills, I joined reputed theatre group Aranyak Natyadal in 2006 and till now, I am very much involved with the arena of theatre.

Along with theatre shows, I am also working in mega-series', namely "Maan Obhiman", "Probashi Gram", "Bibaho Hobe".

Many directors prefer to cast social media influencers, TikTokers and YouTubers as the main protagonists in television projects. How do you feel about this?

I believe that our television and films essentially represent the community and culture of our country. We need to be very thoughtful while selecting the cast members. One can certainly cast social media influencers if the project requires such characters.

However, I think it will be a challenging and questionable matter if inexperienced and unsuitable actors are cast as the main protagonists. Actors should be cast according to their expertise and experience.

Tell us something about your upcoming film, "Dhaka Dream".

I have tried to give a tribute to the film industry through "Dhaka Dream". The movie highlights the story of the common people and their cherished dreams.

"Dhaka Dream" deals with the theme of 'internal migration', and how urbanization affects our lives. We have tried to portray a realistic image of city life through this movie. I am hopeful that "Dhaka Dream" by Proshoon Rahmaan will be appreciated by all.

Do you consider yourself an "accomplished actor"?

I consider myself to be an avid learner, and I always look for opportunities to learn. I think acting is an evolving process, and I always ask myself this question what preparations should I take to develop myself as an actor.

I believe that an actor should be self-reflective, and the notion of self-realization is also very important to me. From time to time, I submerge myself into the world of music, poetry and theatre to cross the sea of acting and drama.
