Star Cineplex extends 'Mujib' biopic screenings

"Mujib: The Making of a Nation", a cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, made its nationwide debut on Friday, October 13. Since its theatrical release, the film has been met with an enthusiastic response from audiences, even earning the endorsement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who urged the nation to watch the film starring Arifin Shuvoo.

Initially, Star Cineplex had scheduled 18 showings for the "Mujib" biopic. However, due to overwhelming demand, the cinema authorities have decided to expand the screening schedule. Starting from Monday, a total of 33 showings will be offered in all branches of Star Cineplex.

A spokesperson from Star Cineplex expressed, "The film is performing exceptionally well at all our branches, and as a result of public demand, we have made the decision to increase the number of showings."

This fervor for the "Mujib" biopic extends beyond Star Cineplex, with other cinemas also witnessing the same level of excitement.

Additionally, Jaaz Multimedia, the production company responsible for distributing "Mujib: The Making of a Nation", announced on their official Facebook page that the film's screening locations increased from 153 halls to 161 theatres within just two days of its release. By the second week, this number had risen to 164 theatres, setting a new record in Bengali cinema distribution history.

In "Mujib: The Making of a Nation", directed by renowned Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal, Arifin Shuvoo portrays Bangabandhu, Tisha portrays Bangabandhu's wife, Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, Dighi portrays a younger Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, Nusraat Faria embodies PM Sheikh Hasina, and Chanchal Chowdhury takes on the role of Bangabandhu's father, Sheikh Lutfur Rahman, alongside other notable actors.

The film's first phase of shooting began at Dadasaheb Phalke Studio in Mumbai in late January 2021, with Indian director Dayal Nihalani serving as an associate director. The screenplay was penned by Shama Zaidi and Atul Tiwari, while Nitish Roy was responsible for the art direction. Pia Benegal, the daughter of Shyam Benegal, oversaw costume design.
