Remembering ‘Mishti Meye’ Kabori on her birthday

Sarah Begum Kabori has ruled over the silver screen during the golden era of Bangladeshi cinema. Known as the "Mishti Meye" of Bangladeshi cinema, her on-screen chemistry with Nayakraj Razzak has been one of the most famous on-screen pairs in the 1970s. Today marks the birthday of the acting legend.

Kabori made her debut in the film industry in 1964 with the film "Sutorang", directed by Subhash Dutta. In her long and successful career, Kabori's film choices have been very versatile, touching upon the genres of romance, folk, social issues, war, and family relationships, among many others.

The diva has played a vital role in shaping the entertainment industry and has managed to become one of the most famous faces of her time. She has shared the screen with Razzak numerous times and some of their most loved releases include "Abirbhab" (1968), "Nil Akasher Niche" (1969), "Deep Nebhe Nai" (1970), and "Ka Kha Ga Gha Umo" (1970).

Alongside these, she has also given frequent superhits with Bulbul Ahmed, Alamgir, Sohel Rana, Farooque, Uzzal, Wasim, Khan Ataur Rahman, Golam Mustafa, Anwar Hossain, and A T M Shamsuzzaman. Her most notable works include "Sujon Sokhi", "Devdas", "Lalon Fokir" and "Titash Ekti Nadir Naam", "Rangbaz" "Binimoy" and "Sareng Bou".

With her grace, natural acting skills, and poise, Kabori soon became the choice of many filmmaking legends including Zahir Raihan, Ritwik Ghatak, Chashi Nazrul Islam, Narayan Ghosh Mita, and Abdul Jabbar Khan.

The National Award-winning actor passed away on April 17, this year, after fighting Covid-19. She was 70 years old..
