Recently, it has been rumoured that Eddie Murphy is in negotiations to play the classic character of Inspector Jacques Clouseau in an upcoming "Pink Panther" movie.

According to Deadline, the entertainment news outlet, MGM is rebooting the "Pink Panther" franchise with "Sonic the Hedgehog" director Jeff Fowler reportedly set to oversee the project.

The new film will likely be a live-action/CG hybrid. The premise will likely follow the plotline of a 'buddy cop movie', with the Inspector and Panther teaming up for the first time ever on the silver screen.

"The Pink Panther" franchise originally began with the 1963 comedy film, starring Peter Sellers as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau.

Sellers would reprise the role in "A Shot in the Dark" (1964), "The Return of the Pink Panther" (1975), "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" (1976) and "Revenge of the Pink Panther" (1978). The role has also been taken over by Alan Arkin, Roger Moore and most recently Steve Martin in 2006's "The Pink Panther" and subsequent sequel "The Pink Panther 2".
