The plot is presented as a bedtime story told, to three wide-eyed kids on Christmas Eve, by Maggie Smith who plays the role of a grumpy Aunt Ruth. The movie, a possible future classic in the Christmas movie genre, has just the right amount of action to counterbalance its touching and amusing moments. Although Nikolas is just a young kid, he possesses an exceptionally strong moral code. It's hard not to be moved by his generosity toward those who have wronged him.
The Christmas Chronicles
Even if you've seen every movie about Santa Claus, you haven't seen one like this. With Kurt Russell as a rock and roll portrayal of Santa Claus, you will be welcomed with a hefty helping of mystery and magic. Two mischievous kids devise a plan to catch Santa on camera but a fiasco unravels quickly. The movie has some spectacular shots, especially the car-chase scene. Russell brings an extra punch of extravagance which indulges the audience in this fun and inspiring movie.
Single All The Way
Netflix has mastered the art of making movies about cliche tropes, but it is often reserved for straight characters. This one is a holiday rom-com with a cheesy premise, but the charisma of the queer characters makes it unique. Besides the protagonists, Jennifer Coolidge also gives a riveting performance that is bound to keep you jolly for the rest of the day. The film is filled with family banter, predictable but heartwarming moments and the suspense of a couple getting together or not.
Let it Snow
Unwrapping an ensemble story about small-town youngsters who fall in and out of love on Christmas Eve, "Let it Snow" is worth watching because of the wonderful cast, interlocking stories and beautiful chemistry between the couples. Even though we follow different stories, the transitions from one to another is often seamless. There is also a well-handled queer subplot. The writers and director mastered the art of evoking just the appropriate amount of holiday cheer without going overboard and, wisely, chose a soundtrack that isn't entirely Christmas-themed.
Falling for Christmas
Lindsay Lohan's much-anticipated comeback was amazing, as we get to see her take on the role of a pleasant girl. This latest festive movie from Netflix does not exactly have an out-of-the-box concept but its sweetness and sincerity will capture your heart. It showcases how doing good deeds and being nice does not always backfire. Thanks to the incredible production design, fabulous costumes, and flawless soundtrack, this is a movie appropriate for people of all ages.
