‘Mon, Megh, Moho’: Film appreciation event held at EMK centre
"Mon, Megh, Moho" was held on August 19, at EMK Centre, Dhanmondi. In an age where stories are often transient, quickly consumed and forgotten, this appreciation circle has offered a space to sit, reflect, and feel deeply.
For Dhaka's urban populace, it was more than a mere gathering; creating an essential space for communal introspection. The event in essence invited people to wade through the delicate interplay of thought, nature, and passion, while also discovering the threads that bind our collective psyche.
The team behind this event was small, consisting of Tabassum Islam Susmi, Tasneem Islam Arna and Mahmud Shourov. Speaking about the gathering, Susmi said, "I've always felt the lack of doing productive things in Dhaka, and I wanted to have a discussion on meaningful issues. The event is an endeavour for that effort."
"We reached a milestone as different generations of people went through a journey together and discussed their feelings. The crowd consisted of people who are professionally working in the sector as well as people who rigorously consume movies. It was amazing to receive both types of perspectives," Susmi further added.
The event began with the screening of "Titli" by Rituparno Ghosh, followed by a discussion. It was quite an informal setup, with people intimately discussing how the movie felt and critically appreciating it.
"There were people who came with their families to enjoy the event. I couldn't imagine in my childhood that I would discuss art with my family in such an event, and I am very glad that our event could achieve that," remarked Susmi.
One such spectator, Balagul Mamur Laizu, came to the event with her son. She mentioned, "Today's generation is extremely liberated and knowledgeable. They are confident in who they are, and it made me feel we've advanced a lot as a society. It's very different from a normal Cineplex, and the discussion is very refreshing. A woman organised the event, and the spontaneity, safety made me very happy."
In fact, the event has been a lyrical tryst with the ethereal, the cerebral, and the fervent. Just as clouds (Megh) meander through skies, casting shadows and crafting stories, our minds (Mon) drift through memories, desires, and dreams. Amidst this drift, emerges the intense allure, the infatuation (Moho) that binds us to stories — both old and new.
"I strongly want to say that this is not a film appreciation circle, rather an art appreciation circle. We want to venture out to literature and other forms of arts soon. We are looking for sponsors, so we can create more memorable experiences, with takeaways to remember our event," concluded the organiser.
