Remember the 1974 film "Masud Rana" starring eminent actor, producer and director Sohel Rana?

After 49 years, the cunning spy's story has been adapted again in a film, titled "MR9: Do or Die", directed by Asif Akbar. This time the role of the much-loved fictional character will be portrayed by ABM Sumon.

The film is being called the highest budgeted project of any Bangladeshi film till date. The production house of "MR9: Do or Die" Jaaz Multimedia, brought together Masud Rana of two different generation today in a Facebook post.

The post revealed some unknown stories of Sohel Rana becoming the character of Masud Rana.

"They are both Masud Rana of the silver screens. They have a strange similarity of becoming the Masud Rana on the big screen," read the post.

It was also shared that legendary actor Sohel Rana, who was originally named Masud Parvez, produced the film "Ora 11 Jon". After the film's massive success, he decided to direct an adaptation of the novel "Masud Rana". Even at that time, there was a hunt for who will play the coveted character, by forming a committee, for which many even auditioned. However, the committee members were not satisfied with the auditions, having Masud Parvez play the role along with directing the film. Albeit, the members and renowned journalist Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury also wrote a new on-screen alias for him—Sohel Rana.

The rest is history. Although after "MR9: Do or Die" was announced, no one from the team even informed Sohel about this. This made the veteran actor a bit upset, which he shared with the media in a recent interview during the screening of Mashroor Parvez's (his son) directorial film, "Going Home".

On a similar note, when the announcement of "MR9: Do or Die" came, there was a hunt show to discover a new face as well. However, the winner from the hunt show titled "Ke Hobe Masud Rana?" was not selected for this role when it went to a larger scale, and was announced a joint venture with Hollywood. Abdul Aziz, the producer of the film, along with director Asif Akbar and even the author Quazi Anwar's choice for the role this time was AMB Sumon.

This behind-the-scene story illustrated a connection between the two actors and the production company brought them together. "MR9: Do or Die" will be released on August 25 in Bangladesh, USA and Canada in more that 100 cinema halls. Swapna Scarecrow is the distributor of the film in North America.
