Zakia Bari Mamo came into the limelight with Lux Channel i Superstar. Since then, she has carved a space for herself in the fields of television and films, winning the National Film Award for her role in "Daruchini Dwip"(2007). More recently, the actress garnered widespread appreciation for her performances in popular web series "Mohanagar" and "Contract."

She will be playing the role of a freedom fighter in the upcoming film, "Ora 7 Jon".

In a candid conversation with The Daily Star, Mamo talked about her latest projects, and more.

You have been absent from showbiz for quite some time. Is there any specific reason behind that?

The only reason that I took a break from acting was to give myself some space. I spent my time reading a lot of books, and was completely immersed in them. It was a wonderful experience.

Can you tell us a little about your upcoming feature film "Ora 7 Jon"?

"Ora 7 Jon" is a Liberation War movie, directed by Khijir Hayat Khan. The story revolves around seven freedom fighters, and I play one of them. Currently, I am preparing for the role.

While you were on a break, did you miss acting?

People in the industry are like my own family. All of us work together as a single unit to make a production come to life, whether it be for the silver screen or for tele-fictions. However, I needed the break to take some time for myself.

You have been elected twice for the role of Executive Committee Member for the Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho. Do you think this organisation plays a crucial role for the artistes?

The association gives a platform for the actors to voice their opinions.  The pioneers of the organisation worked hard to build this organisation, and we are planning on making their dreams come true.

Currently, OTT platforms are ruling the industry. How was your experience working on Hoichoi's web series "Mohanagar"?

The Ashfaque Nipun directorial "Mohanagar" gained immense popularity in both Bangladesh and Kolkata for its unique plot. All of us have acted in this web series with a lot of dedication.  I am happy that Mohanagar was able to carve a place into the hearts of the audiences. OTT platforms are paving the way for better content, and creating more opportunities for the artistes.
