High Court demands response from Hoichoi over ‘Buker Moddhe Agun’

The mother of the late legendary actor Salman Shah, Nilufar Chowdhury had previously filed a writ-petition against airing the Hoichoi produced series, "Buker Moddhe Agun". The series is allegedly based on the life and mysterious death of Salman Shah. In response to this, the High Court has issued a ruling today (February 4), questioning why the series wasn't declared illegal and barred from broadcasting?

The ruling was initiated by a High Court bench consisting of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Khairul Alam. Advocate Sagir Anwar and Barrister Choudhury Murshed Kamal Tipu, alongside other lawyers, represented Nilufar Chowdhury at the hearing. Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Bipul Baghmar represented the state.

Nilufar Chowdhury's writ-petition to the High Court complained that the Hoichoi web-series had socially harassed Nilufar and her late son, Salman Shah, by misportraying their characters in "Buker Moddhe Agun".

According to the High Court ruling, the director of the web-series, "Buker Moddhe Agun", Taneem Rahman Angshu alongside the Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the Chairman of National Broadcasting Authority, the Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, and the Director of the Hoichoi Bangladesh have been asked to respond to this rule.

"Buker Moddhe Agun" was released on the OTT platform Hoichoi, last month on March 2. The web-series starred Ziaul Faruq Apurba, Tariq Anam Khan, Yash Rohan, Gazi Rakayet, Tauquir Ahmed, Tama Mirza and Shahnaz Sumi, among others.
