Director Martin Campbell of "Casino Royale" stated that Henry Cavill auditioned for the role of James Bond and would have been an excellent candidate if the position had not gone to Daniel Craig.

The director revealed details about the Superman actor's audition in a new interview.

"He looked great in the audition," director Martin Campbell stated in a new interview with Express UK regarding Henry Cavill's audition.

"His performance was outstanding. And, if Daniel hadn't been born, Henry would have been a wonderful Bond. He looked wonderful, he was in great physical shape...he was incredibly attractive and sculpted. He only appeared to be a little young at the moment," said the director.

When asked if Henry can still play Bond after Craig, he stated, "By the time Daniel got to [No Time To Die], really he was at an age where one more would have been too old for him. They agreed to sign on for three Bonds, but I'm not convinced. When we did Pierce, he had to sign three contracts. So that'll take you, what, six years of your life? Daniel probably had the same issue. And the next guy will have to do the same. Henry is 40, so by the time he finishes the third one, he'll be 50 and that's really tough," added the director.

Henry will next be seen in "The Witcher" third season. In the upcoming season, he will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. In addition, Henry will not reprise his role as "Superman" in Warner Bros' DC Universe.
