First look of ‘Taali’ out: Sushmita Sen to play transgender activist

The supremely talented Sushmita Sen stunned her fans on Instagram by sharing the first look of her upcoming web-series, "Taali". The actress will be seen essaying the role of Indian transgender activist, Gauri Sawant. 

 

The actress shared the post with the caption: "Nothing makes me prouder and more grateful than to have the privilege of portraying this beautiful person, and of bringing her story to the world. Here's to life and to everyone's right to live it with dignity. I love you guys!"

Gauri Sawant is a transgender activist, who founded an NGO to provide counselling and promote safe sex among the transgender community.

The six episode web-series will focus on the many obstacles Gauri had to face and highlight her struggle to become the first transgender mother in India. The story will also beautifully depict the wonderful bond between a mother and a daughter. 

The makers of "Taali" have hired around 300 transgender artistes for a crowd scene, which will be shot in November. According to a report by Mid-Day, the show will require around 25-50 trans-artistes every day.

Gauri Sawant is an activist who founded the Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust in 2000, an NGO that provides counselling to transgender people and promotes safe sex.
