Documentary ‘Ichchhenatai’ turns the spotlight on Ferdousi Mazumder’s life

Independence Award-winning actress Ferdousi Mazumder has been busy for a week, shooting for "Ichchhenatai", a documentary about her own life. The shoot ends tomorrow. The documentary, directed by Abir Shreshtho, is presented under the banner of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

"Abir is extremely hard working, I am satisfied with his work," said Ferdousi Mazumder to The Daily Star. "He did all his research before approaching me, which I was impressed with."

Ferdousi Mazumder is one of the strongest pillars of the country's theatre arena. "Payer Awaj Pawa Jay", "Kokila", "Ekhono Kritodas", "Ekhono Dushshomoy" are among her most acclaimed plays.
She delivered a powerful performance as Hurmoti, in "Shongshoptok", which premiered on BTV. The character is so popular that people till date call her by that name.

"It is indeed great honour and achievement for me, to get such love from the audience," she said.

Shooting for "Ichchhenatai" took place at Ferdousi Mazumder's house Matrichhaya, University of Dhaka, Fuller Road, Central Road, and Shaheed Minar.

The actress also said that the documentary begins with her childhood days, which she cherishes the most.

 She shared another interesting fact. "There were a lot of trees around my childhood home.  I used to talk to the trees, which will be showcased in the documentary." She also mentioned that the library in her house, which contained thousands of books, is her favourite place in her house.

The documentary will cover the life of Ferdousi Mazumder, from her acting days in theatre and television, her career in teaching, and her personal life. "Though the documentary is taking time to complete, it will be worth the hard work," she said.

Renowned personalities who will be talking about Ferdousi Mazumder in "Ichchhenatai" include Ramendu Mazumder, Raisul Islam Asad, Liaquat Ali Lucky, Keramot Mowla, Nargis Akter and Trapa Mazumder.

 "I would like to work in films, but I have not found any roles that are suitable, which is maybe why the stage is my first preference," shared Ferdousi Mazumder.

The actress is delighted about her comeback the stage with 'Payer Awaj Pawa Jay' from her group Theatre, to be staged on October 1.

The Bangla Academy Awardee, is also a prolific writer. She has successfully published three books, "Mone Porey", "Amar Obhinoy Jibon", and "Ja Ichchha Tai".
