BFDC revises access rules: Journalists no longer require separate permission for cameras

The Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) faced criticism for its strict access regulations regarding media cameras for news gatherings. However, following widespread demands for withdrawal, the BFDC has revised its decision. Now, journalists no longer need to obtain separate permission but Youtubers must apply to the Managing Director of BFDC for camera access through an official letterhead.

The controversy surrounding the new regulations sparked a wave of protests on social media by video journalists, urging the BFDC to reconsider. Taking the concerns into account, the FDC authorities revisited the issue and made necessary amendments to the official order. The revised order, issued yesterday, clarifies that only media cameras entering the BFDC for commercial purposes must apply to the Director (Production).

Earlier on Wednesday, BFDC enforced that the journalists will not be able to randomly enter the premises of BFDC with their cameras. Instead, they will need to take a pass from the authorities to enter the BFDC.

By striking a balance between security measures and the need for media coverage, the BFDC aims to ensure a conducive environment for journalists while safeguarding the interests of the film industry.
