Audience is done with superhero movies: Robert Downey Jr

Robert Downey Jr, who is popular for his role as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, agrees that audiences are entering a new era in which they seek new thrills beyond the realm of superheroes.

In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, the noted actor revealed fascinating details about his new film "Oppenheimer." He also talked 

about some interesting behind-the-scenes experiences of his groundbreaking role "Iron Man" which was released in 2008.

"Audiences are incredibly dynamic, always embracing novel variations of genres, and they eventually move on from them," he observed astutely. "As an artiste, we must continuously exceed their expectations and offer them something fresh," added the actor. 

He emphasised the difficulty the entertainment business faces in understanding what consumers will gravitate towards next.

Downey Jr. acknowledged that the landscape has evolved and the future is unknown since Marvel and Star Wars movies have dominated the big screen for some time. "Now, we're in an interesting spot because it's like anyone's game, anticipating what audiences will respond to next. And I believe it has put the film and television communities on notice," added the actor. 

In "Avengers: Endgame" (2019), the actor said goodbye to his legendary role as Tony Stark, which became the third highest-grossing film ever. Since then, no Marvel picture has come close to surpassing that grand finale's box office success.
