Katthakiya to perform in 18th North American Nazrul Convention

Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA) will organise a virtual programme "18th North American Nazrul Convention", showcasing their heartfelt respect to Bangladesh's national poet Kazi Nazul Islam in a three-day programme, starting from July 30.

The convention will be exhibiting dance dramas and poem recitations based on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's creations. On the first day of the convention, the dance troupe Katthakiya will be performing a dance drama based on Kazi Nazrul Islam's works, "Chirantan".

"Chirantan" was created merging the poet's literature and musical works which the dancers will be expressing through their graceful movements on the first day. Talented dancers and choreographers such as Ariful Islam Arnab, Anandita Khan, Hasan Ishtiaque Imran and Zuairiyah Mouli will be performing the dance drama on the virtual screen. Kamrul Hasan Sabbir Robin is the visual director and editor of the programme. Hasan Ishtiaque Imran, the founder of Katthakiya, will be providing video editing support as well. Alongside them, many students from BIPA will also present Nazrul's creations on the convention.

Acclaimed artistes Laila Hasan, Hasan Imam, Tanveer Alam Shawjeeb, and Ritu Raj, amongs others, will also be attending the "18th North American Nazrul Convention".

The programme is supported by media partner, Times Twentyfour.tv and Weekly Bengali. The convention will be aired on the Facebook page of Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA) and Katthakiya on July 31 at 9 (NYT) and August 1 at 7 (BDT).
