‘Agunjatra’ to be staged at BSA from tomorrow

Starting from tomorrow, theatre troupe Prachyanat's play "Agunjatra" will have five shows next week. The play will be staged tomorrow at 7 pm at the Main hall, Jatiya Natyshala of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, followed by another show at the experimental hall on July 12, 7 pm. On July 13 and 14, the play will be staged at the Neelima Ibrahim auditorium at Bangladesh Mahila Samity.

Originally titled "Seven Steps Around the Fire" and written by contemporary Indian playwright Mahesh Dattani, the play has been translated by Shahidul Mamun. The translation has been adapted and directed by Azad Abul Kalam.

The play surrounds the journey of transgender woman named Kamala and her relationship with the son of a minister. When the minister finds out about the relationship, he burns Kamala to death, framing another transgender woman for her murder. The play unfolds when Uma, tries to unravel the thread of the murder and how her own experiences are tied to the characters.

The cast of the play includes, Shahed Ali, Frhad Hamid, Sharmin Akhter Shormi, Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Tanjikun and others.
