5th National Sculpture Exhibition underway at Shilpakala

The fifth National Sculpture Exhibition featuring 114 selected sculptures by 107 sculptors from across the country began at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday.

Honourable State Minister for Culture KM Khalid inaugurated the exhibition at 4 pm yesterday. Secretary at Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Md Abul Monsur and eminent sculptor Hamiduzzaman Khan and noted artist Alak Roy were present as special guests at the programme.

Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of the Academy presided over the function while Syeda Mahbuba Karim (Mini Karim) gave the welcome speech at the programme.

A total of 135 artists aged between 21 and above, submitted 254 artworks. Apart from this, one sculpture by 16 invited and 5 late pioneer sculptors will also be presented in this exhibition. There will also be a liberation war-based sculpture corner on the occasion of Independence Golden Jubilee.

Besides the selected works, 16 sculptures by eminent sculptors of the country like Hamiduzzaman Khan, Alak Roy, Shamim Sikder, Ivy Zaman, and others are also on display at the show.

13 artists will be awarded at the 5th National Sculpture Exhibition this year. The first award is worth 2 lakh, the second prize is worth 1 lakh 50 thousand. There are also 10 honourary prizes worth tk 50,000 each. Each recipient will also receive a crest and a certificate.
