Sabyasachi designs special tribute for Runa Laila

Renowned designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has dedicated a plaque in his Mumbai store to two ladies who have influenced him: his mother, and our legendary singer Runa Laila. 

Runa Laila shared the news on her Facebook account and a picture of the plaque from Sabyasachi's store. 

"The internationally acclaimed designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has put a plaque in his Mumbai store that says Two women. And of the two, one is his mother and the other is me. Two women who have inspired and influenced him. I'm deeply honoured.Thank you Sabya," read her post. 

The following statement was written on the plaque for Runa Laila. 

"Across the border, in Bangladesh, another woman I admire wore a similar black and gold with her own chandbalis, cropped hair and sleeveless blouse. The legendary songstress Runa Laila. I was an obsessive fan. Back then, my very strict father allowed me exactly 10 minutes of Doordarshan - just enough time to watch Runa Laila sing Dumadam Mast Kalandar."

Runa Laila is a legendary name in the Bangladeshi music industry. Her fame is not only limited to Bangladesh but extends across our subcontinent. Through her timeless hits, she has won over the hearts of millions of people.

The renowned singer's breathtaking voice and stunning fashion sense influenced a whole generation.
