Close-Up One famed singer Salma is ready to step into the limelight after a long break. She has been recording some new compositions, and has been busy with playback songs.

In a candid chat with The Daily Star, Salma talks about her upcoming projects and more.

You perform on stage a lot. But you took a break during the pandemic. How does it feel to finally be back?

After a long break, I finally started performing on stage in September. No other feeling can match the joy and excitement of standing on the stage with the microphone in my hands.

I have a show in Dhaka on October 30, and another one in Jashore on November 8. I am happy that everything is starting to get back to normal and look forward to many more stage performances in the future.

Do you enjoy television shows, music videos and playback as much as stage shows?

I love stage shows the most! I love to interact with the audience. When million other voices sing my songs along with me, I feel that I am a part of the audience, and they are a part of my performance.

What type of songs do your fans like to see you perform the most?

I think audience enjoys most when I sing folk numbers. I do have original songs but people never stop requesting folk numbers.

What does music mean to you?

To me, music is worship. You can never achieve perfection is you don't worship your art form with full devotion. My whole existence revolves around music.

Many new voices come and are lost with time. What is your opinion in this regard?

I have been singing for over 15 years now and not a day goes by that I don't practice. I look to learn something new every day and perfect it. I believe, if you can love something wholeheartedly and work towards achieving success in it, your prayers never go unanswered.

What are you currently working on alongside stage shows?

"Moinar Biye' my song in Sylhet's local dialect, has been released recently. I have also voiced a duet with noted actor Fazlur Rahman Babu. Alongside these, I am also looking forward to some playback numbers and shows.
