Lennon ‘instigated’ Beatles' divorce, not me: McCartney

Singer-songwriter and former Beatles member Paul McCartney has claimed that the band had split since John Lennon wanted to quit.

The famous musician also said he "wanted to continue" performing with The Beatles adding that he did not instigate the band's famous split in 1970, reports The Guardian.

He said this in an episode of This Cultural Life, a new BBC Radio 4 interview series, which was previewed by The Guardian.

McCartney had often been held responsible for instigating the dissolution of arguably one of the most famous rock bands in the history of music.

Addressing the topic during the interview, McCartney said, "I didn't instigate the split. That was our Johnny."

"This was my band, this was my job, this was my life, so I wanted it to continue," he said.

Referring to the rumours that he himself had been behind the Fab Four's falling out, McCartney said: "I had to live with that because that was what people saw. All I could do is say, 'no'." "I am not the person who instigated the split," he said.

"Oh no, no, no. John walked into a room one day and said I am leaving the Beatles. Is that instigating the split, or not?"

McCartney's interview is scheduled to be broadcast on October 23.
