Ekushey Padak winning musician Julhas Uddin dies from dengue

Ekushey Padak winning musician Julhas Uddin Ahmed passed away in Munshiganj's Srinagar upazila at the age of 88. He was suffering from dengue fever.

Julhas breathed his last around 1.30pm yesterday at his home in Baraikhali village, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Nasreen Ahmed, a niece of the deceased.

Julhas received Ekushey Padak in 2017 for his special contribution in music.

He was tested positive for dengue three days ago, the niece added.

Julhas was buried at his family graveyard in Dakkshin Baraikhali last evening after his namaj-e-janaza at Baraikhali Bazar Jame Mosque.

Julhas Uddin Ahmed, son of Yar Ali Bepari and Hasna Begum, was born on November 10, 1933 at Baraikhali village. He was the youngest among four sisters and five brothers. At the age of two and a half, he lost his sight due to smallpox. He started playing music on Bangladesh Betar in 1960. He was accorded with many awards including Nazrul Gold Medal, Nasir Uddin Gold Medal and AB Bank-Channel I Lifetime Achievement Award.
