Ensure relief for indigenous communities, people in remote areas: HRFB

Human Rights Forum Bangladesh (HRFB) urged the authorities concerned of the government to ensure relief or ration to those in remote areas and indigenous people during the coronavirus outbreak.

Day labourers and low-income people have been suffering from food crisis following the nationwide shutdown, HRFB said in a press statement today.

It also said that people from remote places and hilly areas, and also members of indigenous communities, have been facing food crisis during this time.

Many of them are yet to receive any food or relief, it said citing different media reports.

The statement also mentioned that many Santal families in Gaibandha's Gobindaganj are yet to receive relief.

Besides, around 15 lakh Santals and other ethnic minorities in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions are not getting any relief, it said.

The forum called upon the authorities concerned of the government to ensure necessary assistance and disaster allowance to these vulnerable groups, the statement said.
