Eid, a call to unity and shunning division: President

President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday observed that the lesson of Eid-ul-Fitr will unite all to build a beautiful and prosperous country shunning all the differences.

“The role of Eid-ul-Fitr is significant to build egalitarian and peaceful society. Today, I expect that the lesson of Eid-Ul-Fitr will unite all with a view to building a beautiful and prosperous country, shunning differences,” he said.

The President was talking to media during a reception marking the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, at Bangabhaban in the morning.

Abdul Hamid said Eid means joy and happiness. “Today, after month-long fasting, Eid-ul-Fitr has come before us with the message of happiness. Eid creates affection, amity and bondage for unity among the people of all classes and professionals.”

President Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom hosted the reception to senior government officials, diplomats and noted citizens of the country.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice M Muzzammel Hossain, ministers, advisers to the Prime Minister and state ministers attended the reception.

Judges of the Supreme Court, the Chief Election Commissioner, members of parliament, leaders of different political parties, the chiefs of the three military services, editors, secretaries, educationists, senior journalists, representatives of the business community, religious personalities, artists, high civil and military officials joined the reception.

The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries in Bangladesh and the heads of international agencies also attended the reception.

The President and his wife welcomed the guests, exchanged Eid greetings with them and wished them a prosperous life.
