Ensure hassle-free Eid journey

Home-goers are already facing problems

During every Eid, holidaymakers have to go through intolerable sufferings. And as it seems, there will hardly be any exceptions this time, despite the fact that several steps have been taken by the government to ensure smooth Eid journeys for home-goers. Reportedly, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has formed three committees which will remain vigilant in the key bus stations to prevent the plying of unfit buses and overloading of buses. Also, the new bridges and flyovers built recently are supposed to reduce traffic congestion on the major highways. In addition, online ticket sales should also help the travellers.

While the new bridges and flyovers built recently will surely ease the journey for travellers to some extent, there are several choke-points on the highways which have been identified by The Daily Star where people will have to wait for hours. Also, the ongoing repair and construction works of the roads all cross the country will possibly worsen the traffic conditions. And reportedly, home-goers are already facing hassles in buying train and bus tickets. Many people who went to buy bus and train tickets in advance had to come back empty-handed as an artificial ticket crisis has been created by black marketeers. Buying train tickets online has also not been possible, because many alleged that the online ticket purchasing system remained inoperative.

In order to ensure hassle-free journeys for people, the government must ensure that people can buy advanced train and bus tickets without giving in to the black marketeers. And the process of buying tickets online should be made easier. In addition, to reduce the travelling time of commuters, road construction and repair works should be halted a week before Eid and traffic police teams should be deployed at the critical points in the highways.
