BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) entered Dhaka University campus and locked up some classrooms of the science faculty early today as part of their strike across educational institutions throughout the country.

The university authorities unlocked the classrooms when they resumed educational activities this morning.

They locked up seven classrooms and two dean offices at Curzon Hall, acting proctor of Dhaka University, Amjad Ali, told The Daily Star today. “They locked up the classrooms overnight, sometime between midnight and 5:00am today.”

On information, the proctorial body of the university rushed to the spot and broke the locks. The proctor blamed Chhatra Dal for the act “in a bid to curb the usual academic activities”.

However, the incident did not affect the educational operation today and all exams and some classes took place in their scheduled time, Amjad Ali added.

JCD called a strike for Wednesday and Thursday across all educational institutions of the country protesting killing of their Khilgaon unit leader Nuruzzaman Jonny, who was killed in a gunfight with detectives in Dhaka.

Abdus Sattar Patwary, central office secretary of JCD, claimed responsibility of the incident while talking to The Daily Star Online and said that the arts building was also placed under lock and key yesterday.

“We will continue our programmes and activities despite the situation,” he said.
