DU JCD leader injured in BCL attack

A top leader of Dhaka University (DU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was severely beaten by members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Shahbagh this evening.

Critically injured Sadiul Kabir Nirob, senior vice president of DU unit JCD has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, sources said.  

Around 25 BCL men led by its general secretary Siddiqui Nazmul Alam and DU unit General Secretary Omar Sharif swooped on Nirob with lethal weapons and beat him indiscriminately at Shahbagh area.  

For more than last five years BCL men established supremacy at all the dorms of DU and restricted JCD men’s presence on the campus. More than 100 JCD men were beaten up by the BCL men during this time.   

Meanwhile, two factions of BCL men clashed each others at Dhaka College and blasted 11 handmade bombs leaving one fellow colleague injured. Police raided the five dorms of the college and detained six BCL men for interrogation, witnesses said.
