Dream shattered for a poor father

Dream shattered for a poor father

Abdul Kuddus's frail body weakened further by the shock of the death of his two sons. Staring blankly at the coffins, the 70-year-old struggled to find words.
"Everything is ruined; my dreams, my hopes," he said after receiving the bodies at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday.
A flight of Turkish airlines carrying the bodies of Swapan Miah, 34, and Milon Shayal, 32, landed at the airport around 5:00am.
The brothers were killed in a missile attack at a labour camp in Benghazi of Libya on June 21.
Swapan and Milon used to look after their elderly parents and two younger brothers studying at schools.

"They used to send the greater portions of their incomes home. They always used to think of us and assure us of good days ahead,” said the shell-shocked father of seven.
Swapan and Milon went abroad to turn the wheel of the family's fortune a few years ago.
They used to work at a water filtering factory in Benghazi with 30 other Bangladeshis. The two brothers were killed when a missile hit the labour camp in their sleep.
Kuddus demanded compensation from his sons' employer and the government.
"If we get financial assistance from my sons' employer and our government, my two younger sons can continue their study," he said.
Swapan got married three years ago before going to Egypt from where he had entered into Libya to join his bother, who had already been there.
Swapan also left a son aged two and a half years. Milon was unmarried.
They were buried at their village home at Goshairhat upazila of Shariatpur yesterday.
Wage Earners Welfare Board of the expatriates' welfare and the overseas employment ministry gave Tk 70,000 for the burial cost.
