Dr Rakib's death: Khulna doctors demand withdrawal of OC

Doctors in Khulna today gave a 72-hr ultimatum to authorities concerned demanding withdrawal of Sadar Police Station's officer-in-charge and arrest of all responsible for the death of Dr Abdur Rakib Khan.

The physicians did however declare to open all medical institutions in Khulna during a press conference at the city's press club around 2:00pm.

The doctors demanded withdrawal of OC Aslam Bahar Bulbul because he delayed the recording of the murder case and filed it 36hrs after the death of Rakib, said Dr Sheikh Baharul Alam, president of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) of Khulna district unit.

"But we will close medical institutions again after 72 hours if authorities do not fulfil our demands," he said.

Police have arrested four people, including the main accused in the murder case of Dr Rakib.

They are, Jamir, Abul Ali, Abdur Rahim, arrested fom Tongi in Gazipur and Rupsha area in Khulna between late last night and early today, said Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandaker Lutful Kabir. Police are yet to arrest another accused in the case.

Saiful, younger brother of Dr Rakib, filed the case with Khulna Sadar Police Station against eight people naming four accused.

Dr Abdur Rakib Khan (59) who was assaulted by a patient's family members on Monday night over the allegation of wrong treatment which led to her death, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Khulna on Tuesday. 

Rakib Khan was the director of Raisa Clinic and Diagnostic Centre in Khulna and principal of Bagerhat Medical Assistants' Training School.
