'Don't shelter Jamaat terrorists in India'

'Don't shelter Jamaat terrorists in India'

Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim today requested Indian authorities as well as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to hand over militants and terrorists of Jamaat-e-Islami that took shelter in India.

Speaking on a point of order in the House, chaired by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the ruling party lawmaker also called upon the Indian authorities not to provide shelter to Jamaat-backed terrorists in their territory.

Another ruling party MP, AKM Jahangir, urged the government to bring the culprits involved in the anti-state activities to the book.

Referring to a recent comment by Biman Basu, CPM General Secretary of West Bengal, that a Trinamool Congress MP is giving shelter to terrorists of Jamaat that could deteriorate Bangladesh-India relationship, Selim alleged that Trinamool MP Hasan Ahmed is Kolkata correspondent of Jamaat-run daily newspaper Naya Diganta.

He also said that during joint forces operation in Satkhira, terrorists of Jamaat fled to India and the Trinamool Congress MP had provided them shelter. “It is unexpected that Bangladeshi terrorists will take shelter in India,” he added.

The AL presidium member recalled Indian assistance during country’s liberation war and alleged that both BNP and Jamaat are trying to hurt India-Bangladesh friendship. “During the rule of BNP-Jamaat coalition, it patronised Indian separatist organisation Ulfa and declared war against India,” Selim said mentioning 10-truck arms smuggling case.
