The National Human Rights Commission chairman today asked the law enforcers to remain careful while using force to tackle the ongoing violence so that no human rights is violated.

“Many times, you need to use power to protect human rights and public life, but you have to be careful so that it never accounts to violation of human rights,” NHRC chief Mizanur Rahman said.

“You have to curb the violence according to the law,” Rahman said.

He came up with the comments a day after Amnesty International condemned Bangladesh government's move to use “excessive police force” for tackling the violence from the ongoing blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

“Tell us what we should do to control the violence?” the NHRC chief asked the rights watchdog.

He was addressing a “Rally for Peace” organised by the NHRC at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka today.

Activists from different human rights organisations have joined the one-hour rally, which started from in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh around 10:45am and ended at Shaheed Minar.
