Difficult CABG Surgery saving lives in International Standard hospital in the city!

Difficult CABG Surgery saving lives in International Standard hospital in the city!

One night, 48-year-old Abdur Razzak had difficulty breathing, but he thought it was just the result of the spicy dinner he had. When he woke the next morning, he still didn't feel well, so he decided to see his doctor. What he initially thought was heartburn turned out to be something much more serious.

Razzak’s primary care physician advised for an angiogram, which revealed 98 percent blockage in all heart vessels. A friend urged him to schedule an appointment right away with the heart centre of a Multispecialty Tertiary Care Hospital which has International Accreditation.

After checking his condition, the Cardiothoracic (CT) Surgeon in that hospital scheduled a CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) surgery for Razzak for the next day. A successful lawyer, Razzak had no previous warning signs of heart problems. "I had no pain in my arms or any of the other typical signs," says Razzak, who has a family history of heart disease but considered himself healthy. "I had never been to a hospital. Though I ate my share of biriyani, but I also ate fish."

The CT Surgeons performed a triple bypass to reroute blood around the blocked arteries. Today, the father of two teenage boys is recovering well, doing rehabilitation and getting back to normal life. Thanks to the surgical skill of the Cardiothoracic Surgeons of this International Standard hospital, Razzak has just one minor reminder of this major operation – a tiny scar on his chest. “My CT Surgeon is an artist" Razzak says. "You would not believe how small a scar I have. For what I went through, it was as good as it can get."

He also says he has not been in any pain since the surgery. After passing a stress test, he was cleared for rehabilitation three days a week at the hospital. In the beginning, he exercised on a treadmill; he recently started walking even up to two miles a day.

"My CT Surgeon told me it would take about 5 or 6 months to get back to normal," he says. A self-described meat-and-potato guy, Razzak has lost about 25 pounds – back to his high school weight – eats more nutritious food, and plans to stay fit.

"I don’t mind admitting I was really scared," Razzak says. "The surgery wasn’t easy, and I wouldn't want to do it again, but the results were worth it. I feel awesome!" Most of all, Razzak is glad he went to the Heart Centre of this International Standard hospital in time. "I can't say enough wonderful things about the physicians, nurses and staff at this hospital. I made the right decision."
