Dhaka’s rail link with Sylhet, Ctg back

Dhaka’s railway link with Chittagong and Sylhet routes was suspended for over two and half hours as a freight train derailed in Sadar Dakkhin of Comilla today morning.

One carriage of Jalalabad Express, bound for the port city of Chittagong, derailed between Comilla and Maynamati rail stations around 9:45am, Sayedur Rahman, assistant director of Bangladesh Railway, told The Daily Star Online.

The derailment caused in suspension of train operations in the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet routes, he added. “Services resumed after the lines were cleared around 12:15pm.”

No one was injured at the incident that took place at Jangalia area, reports our Daudkandi correspondent quoting Omar Farooque, station master of Laksam Railway Station.

A salvage train from Laksham arrived at the spot and cleared the lines, Sayedur Rahman said adding that services were up and running from 12:15pm.

Meanwhile, another train derailed in Narsinghdi’s Methikanda Railway Station in the morning. A rescue train knocked the derailed train after arriving on the spot.

Sayedur Rahman said it was a minor incident and the railway tracks in that area was cleared around 10:45pm. No one was injured.
