Rail communications of Dhaka with northern and southwestern parts of the country were restored this afternoon after a five-hour disruption following damage to railway tracks in Kalihati upazila of Tangail.

Starting on Thursday afternoon, the incessant rain washed away soil under the tracks at Analiabari on the east bank of the Jamuna river, halting the service from 11:00am today, said Abdul Mannan, stationmaster of Ibrahimabad Railway Station in Kalihati.

The rail service resumed around 3:45pm after repairing of the troubled line, said Afzal Hossain, additional chief engineer of railway of Rajshahi Zone who led the repairing operation, told our Tangail correspondent.

The Dhaka-bound Silk City express train from Rajshahi and Khulna-bound Sundarban Express which got stuck due to the disruption left for their destinations, the rail official added.
