USD 10,000 spent on Gulshan café attack: Cops

The Neo JMB spent around USD 10,000 to carry out the deadly attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s Gulshan area that left 20 hostages and two police officials dead, police claimed today.

“The total spending is not more than $10,000 dollars exclusively for the Gulshan café attack,” Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told reporters at his office in Mintoo Road.

The militants used five 9mm pistols and three AK-22 assault rifles worth around Tk 5 lakh, Monirul said.

They spent the rest amount of money to buy 11 grenades and other explosives to make their mission a success, the police official said.

Apart from this, they also spent some amount of money to pay house rent for the attackers and to buy the dresses and other equipment for carrying out the attack, he added.
