Gulshan attacker Uzzal’s father, brother held in Bogra

Police have now detained the father and a brother of Shafiqul Islam Uzzal, one of the five militants who took part in the Gulshan restaurant attack on Friday, from their house in Dhunat upazila of Bogra.

A team of the district Detective Branch of police picked up Uzzal’s father Badiuzzaman, 55, a farmer, and his brother Asadul Islam, 32, a garment worker, from their house at Kaiyagari village in the upazila on Monday evening.

Later, they were sent to Dhaka, said officer-in-charge of Dhunat Police Station Mizanur Rahman.

Youngest among the three brothers and two sisters, Uzzal was pursuing his MA degree from local Govt Azizul Haque College.

Earlier on Sunday, police detained the parents of Md Khairul Islam alias Badhan, another militant who was killed in a commando operation at the Holey Artisan Bakery following the hostage crisis, from their house in Shahjahanpur upazila of the district.
