Gulshan café attack charge sheet by this month: Monirul

The charge sheet in Gulshan café attack case will be submitted by this month, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) Chief Monirul Islam said today.

“Several accused of the case have been arrested, several others killed in different raids in different times and others remain fugitive,” he told reporters at the media centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today.

“We are trying to arrest the fugitives,” he said adding that the law enforcers will submit the charge sheet by this month though they could not arrest the fugitives.

“During the case investigation, we didn’t find any involvement of global terror outfit Islamic State,” Monirul claimed.

On July 1 last year, gunmen attacked Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan only to draw attention of the IS militant group so that the terror outfit recognised the attackers as its members, he added.

The other motives of the attackers we found during the investigation were to embarrass and oust the present government, the counter terrorism chief claimed.      

Rwenty-two people, including 17 foreigners and two cops, were killed in the grisly attack at Holey Artisan Bakery. The over-12-hour café siege ended after a commando operation that left five terrorists and a café chef killed.
