Speakers yesterday urged the youth to develop the courage to find truth and the practice of listening to others' opinions from their debating experience.
They made the call at the closing ceremony of the three-day debate competition “Rotary Club of Chittagong Debate Championship 2014” organised by Rotary Club, Chittagong in association with Drishti, Chittagong at Theatre Institute in the port city.
SM Abu Tayab, president-elect of Rotary Club, Chittagong, said through debating, people developed the practice of listening to each other's opinions.
At university level, North South University bagged the champion's trophy while Premier University Chittagong and Chittagong University became the first and second runner-up.
At school level, Chittagong Government High School won the champion's trophy, while Dr Khastagir Government Girls High School and Chittagong Collegiate School became the first and second runner-up.
In his speech, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam termed debate an intellectual journey.
 A total of 16 universities and 14 schools participated in the competition.
