Young writers and poets awarded by IFIC Bank and ‘Kali O Kalam’

The prestigious Kali O Kalam Torun Kabi O Lekhak Puroshkar 2022 was conferred on January 28 at an award ceremony at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Kali O Kalam, a monthly magazine on literature, art and culture, has given out the award to young literature enthusiasts of Bangladesh since 2008. 

This year, four young writers received the award for the year 2022: Kabeer Kallol for Shondeho Hobe Na Keno (Ghashful , 2022) in the poetry category; Masud Ahmad for Dur Prithiibir Gondhe (Ghashful, 2021) in the literature category; Nibedita Roy for Kaibarta Jatibarner Itihash (Tangon Books, 2022) in the research category; and Mahhfuz Rahmaan for Kong Paharer Shoitan (Prothoma, 2022) in the children's literature category.

As with the last two years, IFIC Bank has sponsored this year's Kali O Kalam Torun Kobi O Lekhok Puroshkar. 

A two-day programme was arranged at Bengal Shilpalay. 

On January 26, the opening day of the programme, last year's awardees and poets engaged in a discussion and recitation programme titled 'Kabita O Kathan'. Prominent artist Hashem Khan was present as the chief guest of the festival. Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam presided over the event, along with Imdadul Haq Milon, Abul Momen, and Khaled Hossain.

Kohe Birangana, a stage adaptation of Michael Madhusudan Dutt's Birangana Kabya (1861) was staged in the second segment of the event. The play has been adapted and directed by Shubhashish Sinha.
