Anwara Syed Haq and Wasi Ahmed win the first Abu Rushd Literary Award

In a meeting held earlier this month, chaired by Professor Serajul Islam Choudhury, the Advisory Board of the Abu Rushd Memorial Committee has decided to award Anwara Syed Haq and Wasi Ahmed with the 'Abu Rushd Literary Award. 

Anwara Syed Haq has won the award for her novel, Chokh, and Wasi Ahmed for his, titled, Borofkol.

The Abu Rushd Literary Award was introduced this year in memory of the eminent writer, scholar, academic, government worker, and freedom fighter, Professor Abu Rushd Matinuddin (1919-2010). Each year, on his birthday, December 25, the award will acknowledge the creative work of Bangladeshi authors in different categories.

Each awardee this year will receive Tk 50,000 in cash and a certificate. 

Papree Rahman and Mahmud Akhtar Shareef have received the Abu Rushd Medal of Recognition for Literature.

The committee has also recognised two other works, Nodidhara Abashik Elaka by Papree Rahman, and Manush Hobar Kalponik Golpo by Mahmud Akhtar Shareef. Both authors will receive the Abu Rushd Medal of Recognition for Literature, along with a certificate. The prizes will be handed over to the winners in a ceremony next year.

Other members of the Abu Rushd Memorial Committee Advisory Board include M Syedduzzaman, Major General (Rtd.) FR Mamun, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Selina Hossain, Khushi Kabir, Sara Zaker, Abu Kamal, Shaheen Rushd, and Dr Syed Sadrul Huda.
