A Dhaka court today ordered a judicial enquiry into a custodial death of a Bihari community member against eight persons, including the then Sub-Inspector Jahidur Rahman Khan and the Officer-in-Charge of Pallabi Police Station.
After taking cognizance of the murder charge filed by victim Istiaq Ahmed Johnny’s brother Imtiaz Hossain, Judge Jahurul Haque of the metropolitan session judges’ court passed the order.
The other accused are: OC Ziaur Rahman, sub-inspectors: Abdul Baten, Rashed, Shovon Kumar Saha, constable Nazrul, and sources: Suman and Zahidul of the police station.
Imtiaz filed the case with the court against them under the Torture and Custodial Death (Control) Act 2013.
On February 8, SI Jahidur and the others nabbed Johnny when he went to attend a wedding ceremony in the Irani Camp of capital’s Mirpur. And later, he was allegedly tortured to death.
Johnny, 28, was a resident of Talab camp, a settlement for the Bihari community.
