Curtain rises on 9th DU Theatre Fest

Dhaka University 9th Central Annual Theatre Festival began on December 1 at the Teacher-Student Centre of the university. Theatre and Performance Studies Department of DU arranged the festival marking the 20th anniversary of the department. Staring its journey in 1994, Theatre and Performance Studies Department has come a long way to establish itself as a cradle of theatrical performance.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival as chief guest on Monday evening at the TSC auditorium. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, among others, attended the programme as special guest.

Following the inauguration ceremony “Jaminir Shesh Songlap” was brought to the audience. The play, written by Anton Chekov, has been translated by Momtazuddin Ahmed and directed by Mohammad Abdul Hamid.

The 12-day-long grand celebration of theatrical art will host 20 plays.
