Ctg cop held for snatching gold

A sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police and five others were arrested this evening on charge of stanching gold from two jewellers in Chittagong.

Police earlier in the day recovered 23 snatched gold bars from the possession of SI Abul Hossain, Mohiuddin Selim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, told our Chittagong correspondent.

Earlier, police started a drive after getting a complaint from two jewellery traders about the mugging.

Sources said two traders -- Krishna Karmakar and his brother Narayan Karmakar of city’s Hazari Lane area -- on their way to Dhaka fell victim of snatching at Chittagong Railway Station on Thursday afternoon.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal said they recovered 23 gold bars from the procession of Abul. The CMP boss said he heard that 28 gold bars were snatched from the two jewellers.
