Criminals kill AL leader in Jessore

Unidentified criminals shot an Awami League leader dead in Abhaynagar upazila  of Jessore yesterday morning.

The dead, Oliar Rahman, 53, was joint general secretary of the upazila unit AL and also a councillor of Noapara municipality. He hailed from Guakhola village.

Chhayer Uddin, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, said around 6:00am, a group of assailants sprayed bullets on Oliar when he was returning home after performing Fazr prayers at his village mosque near his house.

Critically injured Oliar died on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said.

The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately.
