Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Division DB police told The Daily Star that based on information, police arrested the three from a house in Kamrangirchar around 11:15am today.

Police found counterfeit money from under the bed, under the mattress, hidden inside clothes in the closet, and seized around Tk 46 lakh worth of fake notes and counterfeit money-making materials, said the DC.

The seizure list includes two laptops, two printers, a heat machine, various screens, dice, security rope, various types of ink, glue, and scale cutters.

Police say the stockpiled equipment was enough to make another Tk 1.5 crore fake notes.

The syndicate leader Jiban was arrested twice before for counterfeiting money. During interrogation, Jiban told police that he was arrested three years back but coming out of jail, he once again started making fake notes, said DC Mashiur.

Police said that the syndicate moved and set up the fake note-making factory in Kamrangichar recently. Before, they had a factory in Savar, and from there they distributed fake notes to different districts, police said.

DC Mashiur said that Jiban is an old expert in making fake notes and is connected with other syndicate members. Using the network, Jiban has already spread fake notes.

Police are currently trying to estimate how much they spread so far.
