Youth brutally tortured on charge of theft in Dinajpur

A 25-year-old was brutally tortured allegedly by locals on charges of theft in Dinajpur town today.

The victim is Md Robi (25), son of Chhoton Mia in Bahadurbazar in Dinajpur town, said Md Asaduzzaman Asad, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

Witnesses said some locals detained Robi from Ganashtola area around 6:00am today, alleging that he stole rod from an under-construction building in the area.

Later, people tied him to an electric pole and beat him up mercilessly for four hours, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting locals.

On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the man from the hands of local people around 10:00am.

OC Asaduzzaman further said being informed, a police team rescued the victim, Md Robi, from the custody of the agitating people in Ganashtola area.

The youth was brutally tortured after tying his hands and feet to an electric pole, and police found several injury marks on his body, he said. 

The victim was given first aid, our Dinajpur correspondent reports, quoting the police official.

No one lodged any written allegation against Robi over theft, said the OC, adding that action will be taken against those who carried out the brutal attack on Robi if he complaints against anyone in this connection.
