Woman killed, 2 injured in Cox’s Bazar gun attack; 2 held

A woman was killed and two others were injured in a gun attack in Pekua upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.

Police recovered the body of Shelly Akter (36), wife of local businessman Faridul Alam, and sent it to Cox's Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports quoting police.

Police detained two people -- Mohamadul Karim amd Mufizur Rahman -- for their alleged involvement with the attack, said Officer-in-Charge of Pekua Police Station (investigation) Kanon Sarkar.

According to Shelly's son Mehedi Hasan, a class 10 student of a local school, a gang led by the sons of a local man, Mohammad Hossain, went to occupy the land of one Nurul Islam at Budhamajhi Ghona area around 2:00am.

The gang members hurled brick bats and stones on the tin-shed roof of Shelly's house, adjacent to the plot, Mehedi said.

When Shelly and her family members went out of the house and wanted to know the reason, the miscreants opened fire, leaving Shelly and two others injured, he said.

Shelly was taken to Pekua Upazila Health Complex where she was declared dead, Mehedi added.

The injured were first taken to the upazila health complex from where they were shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
