Woman arrested for killing step-daughter in Khulna

Police arrested a woman for stabbing her five-year-old step-daughter in Khulna's Terokhada area last night.

The deceased was identified as Tanisha Akter, daughter of Khaza Sheikh, a police constable.

The incident happened when the child, who used to live with her maternal grandfather after her mother Taslima Begum got divorced from Khaza a month ago, went to visit her father a couple of days ago.

Locals and police said Khaza recently married Tithi Akter Mukta who could not accept Tanisha's visit to the house.

As the child was sleeping with her grandmother last night, Mukta took her away and stabbed her, leaving her critically injured.

Hearing her screaming for help, neighbours rescued the child and rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead, said Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Terokhada Police Station.

The OC said they arrested Mukta on charge of killing the child.

Deceased's grandfather Abul Bashar Sheikh filed a case against Mukta in this regard.
